Tropical Trouble In Gulf Of Mexico Next Week?

7:05 PM CDT | August 3, 2017

The Atlantic basin continues to show signs of life. There are two tropical waves being monitored by the National Hurricane Center right now. The first is Invest 99L in the Eastern Atlantic. This wave has the best chance for development over the next 5 days, but U.S. impacts, if any, would be at least 8-10 days from now. In the Caribbean, we have Invest 90L. This tropical wave should track west-northwest and eventually reach the Bay of Campeche/Gulf of Mexico early to mid next week. According to the National Hurricane Center, it has a 20% chance for development over the next 48 hours, and a 40% chance for development over the next 5 days. If a low-level circulation indeed forms, its location will influence its eventual track. If the circulation forms farther north, it could take a more northerly track, but if it forms farther south, then it would likely take a more westerly track. Right now, we keep an eye on them as they shift westward.
