Hurricane Harvey continues to intensify in the Gulf of Mexico today. Its winds are up to 85 MPH with minimum pressure of 979 MB, as of 1:00 PM. The National Hurricane Center states that “…HARVEY RAPIDLY INTENSIFYING… …PREPARATIONS ALONG THE MIDDLE TEXAS COAST SHOULD BE RUSHED TO COMPLETION TODAY…” They expect this system to reach Major Hurricane status before landfall. This aligns well with what we have been discussing. Try not to focus too much on the exact track as the effects will be felt far away from its circulation.
In addition to Damaging Winds, excessive rainfall will lead to widespread and significant flooding for the Texas Coast. Storm surge is also a great concern. Again, please monitor your latest forecast and prepare. This is a dangerous storm. Updates will continue to be posted on the blog and Facebook page.
