Right now, there is only one system in the Atlantic basin. This is Tropical Storm Gert which is far from the East Coast. This system is expected to become a Hurricane this week, but fortunately, it is not expected to have any impacts on the United States.
In the Eastern Atlantic, there is a tropical wave being tracked as 91L. This wave will be worth watching once it moves into the Western Atlantic this weekend. Conditions will be at least somewhat favorable for tropical development in the Western Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico during late August. With this in mind, the Western Atlantic could be active during the latter part of the month as there is plenty of energy on its way from the East. As always, you can get the latest on the blog and Facebook page!
