Drought continues to worsen and expand across the state. The latest drought monitor shows "Exceptional Drought" conditions around Del Rio. The next driest area is in the Texas Panhandle around Amarillo. Conditions continue to deteriorate in Northeast Texas and North Central Texas. Most of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex is in severe drought now. While many areas have rain chances over the next few days, coverage will be isolated to widely scattered. Folks who are fortunate enough to see a storm could pick up a quick .10-.50", but again, showers and storms will be hit and miss. History shows that it usually takes a large-scale shift in our weather pattern or a tropical system to break droughts like these. For local weather information, visit weather.gov.
