The Atlantic basin is beginning to show signs of life now. There is a wave coming off the African coast that has a decent chance for development over the next several days. Closer to home and of greater interest for the Gulf Coast is a wave near the Lesser Antilles. This can be seen in the center portion of the graphic.
It will approach Florida by early next week. Some gradual development is possible if it can remain farther south with minimal land interaction. As discussed on August 7th and 23rd, this part of our pattern has featured lower pressure in the Western Atlantic/Gulf region in previous cycles. It is something to watch, as it tracks toward the west-northwest.
