Thursday Afternoon Winter Storm Update

4:00 PM CST | December 6, 2018

This is the latest on the Winter Storm. A Winter Weather Advisory (purple) has been issued for parts of West Texas late tonight into early Friday evening. This includes cities such as Plainview and Lubbock. A Winter Storm Watch (blue) is also in effect for these counties and points north and northeast. Accumulations of freezing rain, sleet, and/or snow will cause at least some travel impacts beginning late tonight through Saturday. Potentially significant accumulations are possible across the watch area which would create very hazardous travel conditions and power outages.

Flash Flood Watches (green) have been issued across Central/Eastern Texas where several rounds of rain will lead to some flooding. North Texas is caught between these two areas. While only a chilly rain is expected for most of North Texas, temperature profiles Saturday-Saturday night will need to be watched as the core of the system passes overhead. A rain/snow mix or perhaps brief light snow *may* occur. While certainly not set in stone, this potential appears greatest NW of Dallas-Fort Worth. I will keep an eye on things over the next couple of days.
